Hugo M. Rojas, II
Founder & Chairman
Hugo Rojas began the Youth Karate Club in 1989, and incorporated the CYKC
in 1994. Rojas was recently elected to the Hawthorne School Board of
Trustees, and has been a Youth Commissioner for the City of Hawthorne since
1993. As a Martial Arts Master with a 5th Degree Black Belt in Chinese
Kenpo Karate, Rojas has held many records and titles, and most recently,
captured the 2001 IMAC World Karate Championship. As a teacher, he lends his
efforts to many other civic and private groups, as when he recently joined
forces with the United Peace Officers Against Crime to develop a one week
self-defense and safety awareness course for Camp UPAC, a camp for over
300 inner-city children Co-Sponsored by the LA County Sheriffs Department.
Joe Alegria
President
With a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Lima Lama, Joe Alegria is a Martial Arts
specialist, but his specialty is organizing Martial Arts Events. Alegria is
the promoter and coordinator of the California Youth Karate Nationals, an
annual event held at the LA Sheriffs Academy; he built the California
Dragon Awards Celebrity Benefit in Hermosa Beach in 2000; and he
coordinated the California Youth and Karate Masters Celebrity Benefit� in
Century City in 1999. When Alegria isnt organizing Martial Arts Events or
teaching at either the East LA Salesian Boys and Girls Club or the East
LA Community Center.
Chris Young
Vice-President
Chris Young has been involved with martial arts for over 30 years, 20 styles
and a few black belts to his name. Chris met Hugo Rojas in the late 80's and
helped him run with Hugo's idea of forming the California Youth Karate Club,
keeping kids out of gangs and drugs by teaching the self respect and
discipline of martial arts. Since 1994 Chris has been the Vice President and
had the honor of bringing in a family friend as the first chair person, the
late Tom Reddin who was the Police chief of Los Angeles in the 60's. Through
the years Chris has worked under Hugo and has helped bring in some other
amazing martial artists friends like Michael Dudikoff from the movie
American Ninja and the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu legend Rigan Machado, as well as
Lee Reherman (Hawk) from American Gladiators to become the CYKC treasurer.
Chris was a Commissioner for the city of Redondo Beach for 8 years and was
awarded by the Mayor, Police dept. and Fire dept. for his good work, when he
left. He did make sure that the city was in good hands though and
recommended good friend and CYKC fellow black belt Kevan Hill to take his
place as a Commissioner for the city of Redondo Beach. Chris is now a
Commissioner for the City of Indio and always strives to move forward in
anyway he can to help his community and the youth in it.
Lee Reherman
Treasurer
Lee Reherman has been a recognizable entertainment personality for more than
a decade, now boasting Acting and Hosting credits in over 50 Television and
Feature Film projects; his broad On-Camera resume includes everything from
playing wacky theatrical roles for Disney to hosting hard edged Muscle Car
Shows for Speed Channel. But in recent years, Rehermans economic expertise
and TV experience have been sought to host financial content on Television
Shows such as PLAN B for CMT and THAT YIN YANG THING for TLC. In 2010,
Reherman will be a series regular on SHOWTIMES new series LOOK, & will
Guest Star on FXs new series, TERRIERS. In late 2009, he will Guest Star
on HANNAH MONTANA on DISNEY, and PRISON BREAK on FOX.
Elizabeth De La Fuente
IT Director\Board Member
Elizabeth De La Fuente has been a member of our organization
for over 8 years. Contributing her time and effort in designing, creating,
and updating our tournament applications packets and website. She is also
supporting the executives in keeping up to date on their IT devices.
